Tailored, compliant GCSE Maths and English support for young people educated outside of mainstream school, delivered in partnership with local councils and schools.
A tailored solution, built around the placement
Every Alternative Provision or EOTAS placement comes with its own requirements, timetable and targets. Before we start, we take the time to sit down with commissioners, schools and families to understand exactly what’s been set out, then build a provision profile around it: subjects, session length, frequency and reporting all mapped to what’s actually needed.
Every placement is delivered in line with the relevant safeguarding and compliance regulations, so it holds up to scrutiny from day one.

- Flexible delivery, online or in-person, working around EHCP targets and timetables

Any student is welcome
There’s no single reason a placement gets set up. We work with students who are:
- Struggling to access mainstream education
- Working towards specific EHCP outcomes
- On an EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) plan
- Looked-after young people working towards PEP targets
- Transitioning between provisions
- Rebuilding confidence after a period of low attendance
Three ways to access support
Every option is built on the same qualified, examiner-led teaching, just structured differently depending on what’s needed.
1-to-1 session
A 3-hour block of fully individual support in Maths and/or English, delivered by a qualified teacher and GCSE examiner. Booked ad hoc for a morning or afternoon slot.
Small group session
The same 3-hour block structure, with up to 6 students working together. Same qualified teaching and subject options, delivered in a small, focused group.
Evening top-up
A 1-hour, 1-to-1 session on selected evenings. An add-on alongside a placement rather than a standalone option, for extra practice or a specific topic.
Fixed session blocks
Sessions run to two fixed blocks, so timetabling stays simple for schools and commissioners.
Morning block
9:00am – 12:00pm
Afternoon block
1:00pm – 4:00pm
- One subject for the full three-hour block, or Maths and English split within the same session
- Small group sessions run as a single 3-hour block, they’re not extended to a full school day
A professional office, not a classroom
Sessions run from a professional office setting rather than a school classroom, a deliberate contrast for students who need a change of environment from mainstream education: calm, quiet, and built around one-to-one or small-group attention.
Students stay with their tutor or group for the whole block rather than moving between rooms, including for the supported break built into every session.
Approved, DBS-checked, and accountable
Restart Tuition is an approved provider on Somerset Council’s Alternative Provision Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) Framework.
All our tutors are qualified teachers with enhanced DBS checks, recruited through a safer recruitment process. Every placement is backed by our full suite of safeguarding, data protection and complaints policies, and we’re happy to share evidence of compliance directly with commissioners and schools.

Every block follows the same shape, whether it’s 1-to-1 or small group. Shown here for the 9:00am–12:00pm block; the 1:00pm–4:00pm block runs to the same structure.
1-to-1 session
9:00 Arrival
Student arrives and settles in for the session.
9:05 Check-in
A quick check-in on how things are going, and what today covers.
9:15 Subject block one
Focused, individual work on the first subject.
10:15 Supported break
A short break, with the tutor staying with the student throughout.
10:30 Subject block two
The second subject, or continued work on the first.
11:40 Review
A recap of what’s been covered and progress against targets.
11:55 Handover
Session ends, with handover for pick-up or next steps.
Small group session
9:00 Arrival
